NEW Healthier Together STW Initiative 

Healthier Together: Improving the health of children and young people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin

Healthier Together is a UK-wide programme which aims to improve outcomes for children and their families, and is a free website full of resources and materials including information leaflets, self-care advice and guidance on when and how to access healthcare services. The resources also include physical and mental health support and advice, helping support parents, carers and professionals to keep children in their care safe and healthy.The website is available by clicking HERE and brings together all local help available. It also signposts where to seek further assistance from health and social care professionals.  


Weaning Advice 

“Weaning needn’t be a stressful time for parents, as there’s lots of support available” is part of the reassuring message being shared by Health Visitors across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Local healthcare professionals are offering advice to parents on introducing solid food to their baby’s diet. A national NHS campaign has re-launched this week to reassure parents and provide advice on what is a significant milestone in their baby’s life.

Breathe Easy Telford & District 

Breathe Easy Telford and District, is a local self-help support Group, affiliated to Asthma and Lung UK (formerly British Lung Foundation). They are a friendly Group, open to all those affected by respiratory diseases, both patient and carers. They have been established 22 years, this year. They hold monthly Group meetings, except August and December.

Community Falls Prevention Services - Self Referral

Additional Falls Prevention Services are now being provided in the Community. People aged 60 years and over and able to book a FREE 2.5 hour appointment themselves, where they will be assessed and be provided with support for balance and fitness.

Free Tennis Sessions available to patients with SMI (Severe Mental Illness)

We know that mortality rates in patients with severe mental illness (SMI) are excessively high. To support SMI service users to be more active, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust have joined with Tennis Shropshire to provide an opportunity to try Tennis, a sport which may previously have been inaccessible to them.

Sessions will take place from Wednesday 11 January 2023 and then every Wednesday for 12 weeks, 11am – 12noon at The Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre, Shrewsbury Tennis Club.

Sessions are completely free and equipment and coaching is provided.

There is no commitment to attend every session, participants can come and go as they please.

Registration is for patients who are 18+ and considered to have an SMI, via email: ActivitiesSMIPH@mpft.nhs.uk


Silver Cloud Online CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Programme

Telford and Wrekin Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Service helps people with mild to moderate depression, anxiety disorders and issues with sleep.

The service offers SilverCloud, an online therapy programme that allows people who struggle to make regular appointments, to access Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques in a way that suits them, in their own time and at their own pace, whilst still having regular online reviews with a trained practitioner.

People aged 16+ and registered with a Telford and Wrekin GP, and who are not currently being seen by another mental health team, can self-refer to the service here: https://twiapt.mpft.nhs.uk/silvercloud/silvercloud-self-referral

To use SilverCloud, access to a computer, smart phone or tablet is needed and users need to be confident in using the internet and apps.

Move for Mood

Delivered by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Recovery College and Telford and Wrekin Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Service, this free nine week course will be of interest to anyone that wants to find out more about depression and how to boost mood.

Through these in person, groups sessions, patients will look at the theory of depression and consider how physical activity can help to alleviate some of the symptoms of low mood and depression.

Designed for all levels of fitness, students will have the opportunity to try out activities such as walking, jogging or running for wellbeing, moving to music and beginners boxercise.

Starting on Friday 13 January, 2 – 3.45pm, sessions will be held at The Hub on the Hill in Telford

Open to adults who are registered with a Telford and Wrekin GP, registration is via self-referral to the Telford and Wrekin IAPT service, by using the online referral form https://twiapt.mpft.nhs.uk/ or telephone 01952 457415.

Community Preventing Falls Through Exercise Service

This service is designed to improve the postural stability of older people through a 20 week falls exercise programme. The aim is to improve muscular strength, flexibility, coordination and balance which will help improve mobility, reduce the risk of falling and maintain independence.
