DR GAVIN WOOD

MBChB DCH DRCOG MRCGP - Registered 1998

Dr Wood was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, and undertook his medical training in South Africa. He moved to the UK in 1999 and spent 18 months working at the Princess Royal Hospital before doing a 3 year GP training programme in N.E. Lincolnshire, where he also spent one year doing GP work. He then moved to South Africa for nine months to work in a casualty unit, returning to the UK in April 2005. Dr Wood is married with two adult children. Special Interest: Child Health

DR DAVID SHARP

MBChB MRCGP - Registered 1999

Dr Sharp was brought up in Lincoln. Before starting his medical training, he worked in a bank for a year. He then went to Birmingham to study medicine. After completing his medical degree, he decided quickly that he wanted to be a GP, and undertook GP training in Stafford. He practiced there for a couple of years, before moving to Telford. Dr Sharp is married, with three young children. Outside work his interests are playing golf, football, and spending time with his family. Special Interests: Diabetes and Minor Surgery.

DR MARK O'TOOLE

MB BS DCH DRCOG - Registered 1994

Dr O’Toole has been a GP since 1998, initially working in Tiptree, Essex (famous for its Jam) until he relocated to the Telford area in July 2003, where he had been working locally, until he joined the practice in November 2016. He has an interest in medical student education and joint injections as well as keeping up with the politics of the NHS locally and beyond. Dr O’Toole is married with 3 children and has a keen interest in the claret and blue of Aston Villa!

DR PARAMJIT SINGH

MBBS DRCOG MRCGP

Dr Singh completed his GP training in Scotland. After having worked in different practices over a few years he joined Charlton Medical Practice as a partner in 2018. Dr Singh is married and has 2 young children.

DR HELEN SUMNER

MBChB DRCOG DFSRH LoC IUT - Registered 2000

Dr Sumner was born in Wrexham and qualified in Birmingham in 2000 and has been working in Shropshire ever since. She has worked for sexual health at the RISQ clinic. Dr Sumner is married to Paul and they have two small children, Thomas and Hannah. Dr Sumner likes to spend her spare time running around after her children. Their weekends are spent getting out and about in their campervan. Special interests: Womens Health and Sexual Health.

DR SARAH PARNELL

BM MRCP(UK) MRCGP DRCOG DFSRH - Registered 2003

Dr Parnell grew up in Bedfordshire. She studied medicine at the University of Southampton. She then moved to Bournemouth and started training to become a medical consultant before deciding to pursue a career in general practice. She completed her GP training in Bournemouth before moving to Telford in 2011. Dr Parnell had a son Ben in 2013 who takes up most of her time outside work. She also enjoys swimming and keeping active. Special Interests: Sexual Health, Contraceptive Implants, Medicine for the Elderly and Cardiology

DR HANNAH ELLIS

MBChB MRCGP DRCOG - Registered 2008

Nurses

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning and healthy living advice. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Vivien is Telford born and bred and has never left Telford. She is married and has two adult children. After qualifying in 2003 she worked in the Princess Royal Hospital on the wards for 2 years and the Intensive Care Unit for 9 years. She then moved to the District Nurses for 4 years and became a Practice Nurse in 2018. She joined the Charlton team in September 2021. Her work special interests are Infection Prevention and Control and she is our Green Champion. Outside work you will find her spending time with her family, walking her dog, cycling and learning to run.

CARRIE ANNE WOOD

Practice Manager

Carrie Anne has worked at Charlton Medical Centre since 2010 fulfilling various roles including Finance and Payroll Manager, Covid vaccination lead, and Assistant to the previous Practice Manager. She is responsible for the smooth running of the Medical Centre and has completed her AMSPAR Diploma in Primary Care and Health Management.

JULIE WHEAVER

Teams Manager

Our Teams Manager is Julie and she is responsible for the smooth running of the Reception and Administration Departments. During her time at Charlton, Julie has worked in both departments and has a wealth of knowledge, in particular about our telephone and appointment system. Julie has also completed her Level 3 in Management.

SAMANTHA WHILE

Teams Manager

Samantha is responsible for the smooth running of the Administration and Reception Departments. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience within Management and loves to encourage others to develop their own skills. She has worked within the NHS since 2014.

Administration/Reception

Our administration team plays an important role within the practice, carrying out all the administrative duties. Some of their tasks include: issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, patient referrals, medical report requests and answering patient queries. Our reception team are a vital link for patient’s initial contact with the practice and are trained to direct you to the most appropriate clinician or service depending on your health issue or query. As well as making most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses, our receptionists also perform other important tasks such as answering patient queries and registering new patients.
